چکیده

Abstract A new formulation of the thermodynamic field theory (TFT) is presented. In this new version, one of the basic restriction in the old theory, namely a closed-form solution for the thermodynamic field strength, has been removed. In addition, the general covariance principle is replaced by Prigogine’s thermodynamic covariance principle (TCP). The introduction of TCP required the application of an appropriate mathematical formalism, which has been referred to as the iso-entropic formalism. It is shown that all thermodynamic theorems, valid for systems out of equilibrium, are automatically satisfied. A new set of thermodynamic field equations, able to determine the nonlinear corrections to the linear (”Onsager”) transport coefficients, is also derived. The geometry of the thermodynamic space is non-Riemannian tending to be Riemannian for hight values of the entropy production. In this limit, we obtain again the same thermodynamic field equations found by the old theory. Applications of the theory, such as transport in magnetically confined plasmas, materials submitted to strong temperature and electric potential gradients or non-equilibrium chemical reactions can be found at references cited herein.

Surface tension, hydrophobicity, and black holes: The entropic connection.

The geometric entropy arising from partitioning space in a fluid " field theory " is shown to be linearly proportional to the area of an excluded region. The coefficient of proportionality is related to surface tension by a thermodynamic argument. Good agreement with experimental data is obtained for a number of fluids. The calculation employs a density matrix formalism developed previously for...

Temporal Asymmetry, Entropic Irreversibility, and Finite-Time Thermodynamics: From Parmenides-Einstein Time-Reversal Symmetry to the Heraclitan Entropic Arrow of Time

In this paper, we combine the two universalisms of thermodynamics and dynamical systems theory to develop a dynamical system formalism for classical thermodynamics. Specifically, using a compartmental dynamical system energy flow model we develop a state-space dynamical system model that captures the key aspects of thermodynamics, including its fundamental laws. In addition, we establish the ex...

Effective Two-loop Thermodynamic Potential with Fermions in the real-time formalism of thermal field theory

Within the real-time formalism (RTF) of thermal field theory, we apply the hard thermal loop (HTL) resummation technique to calculating effective two-loop thermodynamic potential in quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and its renormalization. The result with collective effects is obtained, which is valid for an arbitrary number of quark flavors with masses. Keyword: quark-gluon plasma (QGP); finite temper...

Entropic C theorems in free and interacting two-dimensional field theories

The relative entropy in two-dimensional field theory is studied on a cylinder geometry, interpreted as finite-temperature field theory. The width of the cylinder provides an infrared scale that allows us to define a dimensionless relative entropy analogous to Zamolodchikov’s c function. The one-dimensional quantum thermodynamic entropy gives rise to another monotonic dimensionless quantity. I i...

Relative Entropy in 2D Quantum Field Theory, Finite-Size Corrections, and Irreversibility of the Renormalization Group

The relative entropy in two-dimensional field theory is studied for its application as an irreversible quantity under the renormalization group, relying on a general monotonicity theorem for that quantity previously established. In the cylinder geometry, interpreted as finite-temperature field theory, one can define from the relative entropy a monotonic quantity similar to Zamolodchikov’s c fun...
